It's good to try something new

I was all set to have a slow, lazy, jammie-laden Sunday until my friend Melissa called me up. She invited me to tag along with her to the screen-printing lab at the UCD Craft Center. Who could resist? I arrived, line drawings in hand, poised and ready to learn something new. The last time I had screen-printed was in the 12th grade when I helped my art teacher print posters for our class production of "Rebel Without a Cause". Maybe because his poster design was so, well, lame or maybe because I found him to be a little too intimate, I never tried it again. Until today. It was easy. It was fun. It was slow. Which, it turns out, was exactly what I needed.

Melissa is one of those people who is FULL of hidden talents. Chock-a-block full, but so humble about it, too. She seamlessly moves from one kind of craft to another. One minute we were spraying screens, the next she has me assisting her in the ceramics studio--catching a ginormous pooplike log of clay as it came out of a wall-presser-thing. On my knees. It felt dirty...and hilarious. Yes, we are easily amused. I don't get out much. That's my excuse.

I really enjoyed seeing my designs jump from paper to transparency to screen to fabric. And I think they turned out pretty dang cute for my first try. I'm excited to work them into some upcoming projects.  So I can go again and make more! Screens, not poop logs. My catching days are over.

Holy Crap! That is frickin awesome squared.
I might have to BEG you to teach me how to do that.

ps...your drawings are flipping fantastic!

But WHO ELSE will catch my poop log? (wow, that sounds even dirtier in print.) I'm off to make the poop log into mugs ;)

How fun! Can't wait to see what you do with them!

your drawings are awesome. Maybe a giveaway with one or two? =) PLEASE!!! LOL

Those are way too cute! I can't wait for you to make something out of them that I could buy! :D

-hee hee hee ..poop log. I don't get out much either. :D

LOVE the drawings, especially on fabric! I have had a screen printing kit for about a year and a half and haven't once tried it! Perhaps I can coax Melissa to teach me!
